10 Playgrounds to Explore in County Dublin this Summer

There are many great playgrounds throughout Dublin area, north and south. While some are better than others, there has been a vast improvement in recent years with many playgrounds being revamped and modernised. Play is an important part of children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development, as well as creativity and imagination, so here is a list of 10 playgrounds to explore in County Dublin this summer:

1. Phoenix Park, Dublin 8

This is an amazing place to be during the summer! Full of green and options to explore, this large and modern playground is suitable for the whole family, from little toddlers to twelve-year-olds. Picnic tables and parent seating available.

2. St Stephens Green – Dublin 2

The playground features separate areas for smaller and older children. The swings, slides, and roundabout are very popular with younger visitors. This large revamped playground is in the centre of the park in St Stephen’s Green.The Garden for the Blind contains signs in Braille and aromatic plants that can be handled. Parent seating available.

3. Herbert Park, Ballsbridge – Dublin 4

Herbert Park is home to two playgrounds with a good selection of equipment for different ages.

 4. Bushy Park Terenure – Dublin 6w

Large playground with a separate play area for younger children. Great wooden bridge and a small maze. Parent seating available.

5. Marlay Park, Rathfarnham –  Dublin 16

Marlay Park, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16 has a large playground with a separate play area for younger children, including sand pit. Parent seating available. Watch out for the ice cream van who is outside most of the year, if you don’t want to buy ice cream, have your excuses ready for the children ;)

6. People’s Park, Dun Laoghaire – Co Dublin

This large playground has a Toddler and Pre-School area. Parent seating available.

 7. Shanganagh Park – Shankill – Co Dublin.

8. Cabinteely Park – Dublin 18

Fantastic adventure playground with toddler, pre-school and older kids area. This large and exciting playground includes a zip-wire and maze, as well as a beautiful park and Japanese gardens on the grounds of Cabinteely House.

9. St Patricks Park – Dublin 8

Playgrounds suitable for toddlers to twelve-year-olds.

10. Blackrock Park – Co Dublin

Large modern playground. Suitable for toddlers upwards. Has an excellent climbing frame for older kids!
