How to Prevent Dry Skin During the Winter
Winter dryness gets to everyone, but it can be especially tough on the Little Ones. They are constantly washing their hands and playing everywhere!
All the washing combined with the hot and cold temperatures indoors and outdoors, can result in cracking, peeling, soreness, itchiness, flaking, redness and other symptoms of dry skin. So the questions is: How to Prevent Dry Skin During the Winter?
The answer? A new routine that will nourish your little ones’ skin!
To start with, make sure they wear gloves, use sunscreen outdoors (yes, sunscreen! It is also important during winter) and moisturizer indoors. To make it easier, stash extra pairs of gloves and tubes of sunscreen/cream in several places. At home, kill the urge to crank the thermostat on and to take long, hot showers or baths, which depletes moisture. Aim for quick showers, leaving the baths for the days when the kids are a bit ‘under the weather’, as baths relaxes them.
Consider changing the types of moisturizer, allowing for winter and summer options, always keeping in mind that products made with natural ingredients are the best option for our Little Ones – here are 2 good options: Coconut Oil is rich and locks skin’s natural moist, making it perfect for cold weather, while Aloe Vera Gel for example, is ideal for summer time as they are light and non greasy. Another tip is to apply moisturizer every time after washing their hands (and yours too!).
To Keep in Mind:
All Kids have different skin type. However, it can change depending on the season. It is important to identify that and choose the right product for their skin;
Use a very mild soap during the cold season, or NONE at all when possible;
Always look for a professional opinion if your child’s skin is too dry and not improving with regular moisturizers.
